Self-host Runs today

The whole product, on your machine.

Self-hosted MotionTyped is the same pipeline the hosted app will run: one Docker image, CPU only, your keys, your files. Free, with no seat limits from us.

docker run --rm -e ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=sk-… -v "$PWD/runs:/app/runs" motiontyped generate https://your-product.com

Quick start

Five steps, about ten minutes.

Most of the time is the first image build. After that a run takes 5 to 7 minutes with the LLM storyboard and vision QA, or about a minute on the no-key template path.

  1. Get the source

The repository is not public yet. Leave your email and we send access; a public repository and licence will follow.

  2. Build the image

    docker build -t motiontyped .
  3. Add a key, or don't

An Anthropic API key powers the storyboard and vision QA. A Claude Code login works instead of a key. With neither, a deterministic template writes the storyboard and QA is structural only.

  4. Generate an ad

    docker run --rm -e ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=sk-… \
      -v "$PWD/runs:/app/runs" \
      motiontyped generate https://your-product.com \
      --aspects 4:5,9:16 --style kinetic-serif
  5. Open the web UI

    docker run --rm -p 8787:8787 -v "$PWD/runs:/app/runs" motiontyped api

Then open http://localhost:8787: runs list, live stage tracker, scene drawer, compare.

Requirements

What it needs, honestly.

Machine

Docker on Linux or macOS, or Node 22 with pnpm. CPU only, no GPU. One 4:5 render took about 81 seconds on 20 cores; all four aspects about 5 minutes. Slower machines take longer.

Keys

ANTHROPIC_API_KEY or a Claude Code login for the storyboard and vision QA. Optional: a self-hosted Firecrawl for scraping; Playwright is used otherwise.

Output

Everything lands in runs/<id>/: the MP4s, storyboard.json, product.json, screenshots and QA reports. Edit, diff, re-render.

Licence notes

Read this before you publish.

  • Remotion renders the video. It is free for individuals and companies of up to three people; larger companies need a Remotion company licence. When you self-host, that licence is yours.
  • Firecrawl (optional) is AGPL-3.0. Run it as a separate local service; do not expose it to other people.
  • ffmpeg in the image is the Debian package (GPL/LGPL), used as an external process.
  • Music: the bundled bed is a synthesized placeholder. Supply a track licensed for advertising before a video leaves your machine.
  • Fonts: Instrument Serif and DM Sans, SIL Open Font License.
  • Your source site owns its copy, screenshots and logo. Publishing an ad made from someone else's site is on you.
