Make your first film, from an address or a description.

Give MotionTyped your product's web address, or describe the product. You answer up to three quick questions, pick a concept, and get a film you can edit.

Coming soon The hosted app is not open yet. These pages describe MotionTyped as it works today, in testing. Anything that is not available yet is marked. Join the waitlist to hear when it opens.

Start a project

Open the app and you land on Make a film from your site. There are two ways in.

From your site's address

  1. Type your product's web address, for example acme.com. You can leave off https://.
  2. Optionally, say what the film should do in the box below: the length, where it will run, who it is for. For example: A 30-second launch film for LinkedIn, aimed at ops leads. It holds up to 4,000 characters.
  3. Press Start.

The address must be public. Private and internal addresses are refused on purpose.

From a description

No website yet? Press No website yet? Describe it instead. Then:

  • Describe your product (up to 4,000 characters).
  • Optionally add your logo (SVG or PNG) and up to four screenshots (PNG, JPEG or WebP).
  • Press Start.

Nothing is read from the web in this mode. The film is built from your words and your uploads. Press I have a website to switch back.

Good to know. Say the length you want in the request. The film aims for it, inside what its type of film can hold. Films made in the app use the Studio style today.

What happens while you wait

A progress list stays on the page. It has five steps: Read your site (or Read your description), Brief, Concepts, Film and Checks. Two of them need you. The list marks those your turn.

StageWhat it doesUsually
Reading your siteReads your pages for what the product does, its claims, its colours and logo. In description mode it reads your words instead.About 1 min, with the brief
Writing the briefTurns your site and your request into a short brief: goal, audience, the one message, tone, length.(in the minute above)
Questions for youUp to three quick questions. Your turn. MoreAs long as you take
Drafting conceptsWrites three different ideas for the film and draws a few rough stills for each.About 5 min
Pick a conceptYour turn. MoreAs long as you take
Building the filmPrepares images and screens, renders the film, checks every frame, then runs the final checks.About 5 min

Those times are typical figures from real runs on our test server. Yours can differ, and the page says so when a step takes more than about one and a half times as long: Taking longer than usual. It is still running.

While the film builds

As soon as the film has a storyboard, the editor opens in read-only mode so you can watch it take shape. A banner counts down: Finishing the film. Editing unlocks in about 3 min. The first build makes three sizes: 9:16, 4:5 and 16:9.

You can leave

You can close the tab. Your project keeps going and is listed under Earlier projects on the start page. A project left at its questions carries on by itself with the best guesses.

If a project stops

You see This project stopped with a plain reason. If it got past reading your site, Try again runs the later steps again without reading your site a second time. Otherwise start a new project. The troubleshooting page lists the reasons.
